Alabama Senior Environment Corps (AlSEC) members serve their local communities in various ways:

  • Aiding with environmental and community events
  • Mentoring the next generation of stewards for the environment
  • Informing the public on topics such as watershed health, radon and recycling
  • Restoring trails and cleaning up parks, waterways, and other natural areas
  • Mapping abandoned oil and gas wells
  • Eradicating invasive weeds
  • Monitoring Alabama's waterways, creating baseline data, assessing stream habitat and surveying macroinvertebrates (insects)
  • Helping to implement watershed restoration projects
  • Assessing riparian buffer areas, assessing EPA 319 sites and Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) areas
  • Monitoring for abandoned mine drainage and for other contaminants in waterways
  • Stenciling storm drains
